How to set up Email Forwarding

Email forwarding is as its name implies. Simply, it enables you to automatically forward electronic mails (emails) originally addressed to a particular recipient to another recipient, or to multiple recipients.

This is useful when you have multiple email addresses and you want to be able to check and manage them all from one email account. Email forwarding is also convenient if you need to forward your email messages to another person.

How to set up Email Forwarding

To set up your email forwarding, follow the steps below:

  1. Click on My Account at the top of the page.
  2. Select Hosting Manager from the drop-down menu.
  3. Enter your username and password, and click Log In.
  4. On the Home page, click the word Email or the [ v ] arrow symbol on the right.
  5. Next, click the Forwarders icon, which is next to the Accounts icon.
  6. Click Add Forwarder.
  7. On the next page, type the email of the original recipient in the field below Address to Forward and select the domain of the email address next to the at (@) sign.
  8. On the right, under Destination, choose Forward to Email Address and type in the field the full address where you want the emails to be forwarded.
  9. Click Add Forwarder.
  10. Click OK.

Your email forwarding has now been set.

Important Note: You can add multiple email addresses under the Destination field. Just indicate the different email addresses by separating them with commas.

e.g. [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]

If you have set several email forwarding entries and you want to make some changes to one entry in particular, you can do a quick search. Just type in your keyword in the Search text box and click Go.

If you want to view the path or route that a forwarded email takes, find the email address and click the Trace icon under the Actions column.

If you want to delete a previously set email forwarding entry, find the entry and click the Delete icon next to it, under the Actions column. Click Delete Forwarder to confirm.

What is Domain Forwarding?

Domain Forwarding enables you to set all incoming emails to a certain domain to be automatically forwarded to another domain. Domain forwarding supersedes or cancels out the default address of the forwarded domain.

All domain forwarding entries are listed under Forward All Email for a Domain in the Forwarders page.

To set up domain forwarding, follow the steps below:

  6. Click Add Domain Forwarder button.
  7. Type in the domain where you want the emails to be forwarded to.
  8. Click Add Domain Forwarder.

If you want to delete a previously set domain forwarding entry, find the entry and click the Delete icon next to it. Click Delete Domain Forwarder to confirm.

Important Note: Domain forwarding only takes effect when the system cannot deliver the emails to an address or autoresponder. For example, if a user sends an email to [email protected], the following actions may happen:

  • If the [email protected] or autoresponder exists, cPanel will not forward the email.
  • If the [email protected] or autoresponder does not exist, cPanel will forward the email.
